Hi~ I found your story and now I am sitting here crying! (Thanks a lot:) You see, I was just getting ready to list my Son’s saxophone on craigslist, and I was thinking back to when Brian started high school. We had switched school districts when he started 7th grade and when it was time for High School, He didn’t want to continue with band. He didn’t think it was “cool” I convinced him to just give band a chance, do it in 9th grade, the worst case scenario, you’ll meet 230 people, you might not otherwise know. He played all four years. I never had to convince or bribe him again. His strongest relationships came from the people he met in band. Two years after graduation, he still has those friendships. I can’t even begin to tell you how much the marching band shaped the man Brian has become today. I am so thankful that as a parent, I pushed him to try it for “just one year” I always teared up watching the band perform with such precision and accuracy. Now at 20 years old He has recently become a Firefighter, and honestly he has band to thank for that. Catalina Foothills High School Marching Band, Tucson Arizona

This is so awesome!! I was a band and choir geek in high school. I am now writing a research paper about keeping music in public schools. This is the perfect example of how it can change lives. thank you so much!

I’m currently a high school student in my high school marching band. We’re pretty good, and your band sounds like mine, only we don’t live near the mountains. We’ll be in the Rose Parade.

I’m writing an article on how marching band can change lives around the world, so that’s how I came across your post. My friend told me that “it’s cute that you’re spreading band.” She’s not in band, needless to say. It’s nice to see that it’s not only the people I know who were changed by band, but others too.

Well, now you have your own little two-person “marching band”, except you use a camera instead of play a clarinet. But I gotta warn ya, I’m gunning for first chair….. 😉

And really, a barbeque pit? What kind of school ENCOURAGES high school kids to play with fire?
