Alma and Joe are incredibly adventurous clients, so when I suggested we do their maternity session at the amazing Sutro Baths in San Francisco, they jumped at the chance. It was, of course, swarming with tourists, but we’re patient, and we can work around anything. We explored and had a great time finding spots to shoot, climbing on rocks (yes, preggo Alma climbed on rocks), walking on the beach, standing in the surf, and getting nailed by waves. The day was full of laughter, screams of “OMG it’s cold!”, and general good times. I can’t wait to photograph baby Joe when he’s born!
Sutro Baths is my new favorite place to shoot. There’s so much texture and so many amazing spots.
Sutro Baths is photographed ALL THE TIME, so I did my research and worked very hard to make images I’ve never seen before. I always do my research before I go to a location so my images are unique. This is one of Alma and Joe’s favorite images of the day.
This photo of Alma and Joe is one of my very favorite photos of the day because there’s such a strong and happy connection between them. They ordered this image in 5×7 for their bedroom and I think it’s an excellent choice. Marriage and children are hard work, and there will be times when they’re exhausted or frustrated, or going through something really hard, and they’ll pass by this photo and smile because they’ll remember what it was like when they took it and how happy they are together.
The tide started coming in and the waves fully nailed Alma and Joe. Alma screamed because the water was so cold and Mark heard her all the way across the park where he was waiting with gear. HILARIOUS. Alma and Joe will tell Joey Jr all about this moment when he’s older, and he’ll laugh too.
Dawn you are seriously the best!!! We love all out pictures and deciding was so hard for both of us. Joe and I love our wedding photos, there was no question about who was going to do our maternity pictures or our new born pictures. Getting splash by cold water and climbing around was so worth it! We had a great time and you truly capture our happiness and connection. I said it before and I will say it again you are stuck with us!
