Trashin’ the Dress ~ Getting’ Down and Getting’ Greasy

Dacey’s husband is big into restoring cars, and he even has his own small auto shop behind their house. What a fab opportunity to get down and get dirty with a Trash the Dress session! Yep, that’s grease all over Dacey’s beautiful wedding dress. “I’m never going to wear it again. I might as well have some fun with it.” That’s the spirit!!!

As you can see from my galleries (click here for a Trash the Dress gallery: Trashin’ the Dress), when I do a Trash the Dress, I REALLY do it. None of that prancing around in a field, or just barely getting in the water. I go ALL out. That’s one of the reasons I was so excited to do this shoot. Dacey said she didn’t care if the dress was completely destroyed, she just wanted unique photos.

We started out with some shots of the beautiful Dacey in the auto shop, still clean, then McKenzie and I had a great time dribbling and rubbing grease all over her dress. As the shoot progressed, the dress got dirtier – every Trash the Dress photographer’s dream.

Then we moved on to another location where we could make it look like she was stranded. I have to admit, a second location was McKenzie’s idea. As we were shooting in the alley behind Dacey’s house, McKenzie said, “We need like a desert or something, so she looks stranded.” “YES!” I exclaimed. “I like it!” We aren’t around any desserts, but we were able to go out into the country. A very nice gentleman who spoke zero English was nice enough to lend us some of his land. (Read about my mad charade skills and see some behind the scenes here: Adventures in Dress Trashing)

For the shot below, I told Dacey we needed to try for it four times, because she was running and looking back, and I was shooting film, so I couldn’t see the finished product immediately. This shot was really important to me. So poor Dacey ran up and down the orchard over and over. Turned out that I got the shot in the first frame. Oops. Sorry I made you run up and back so many times, Dacey, but you were a great sport about it!

These photos are a gift for her hubby, and I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about them. He had no idea we were doing this shoot at all. Dacey did a great job at keeping it a covert mission.

Thank you Dacey, for letting us get down and dirty in this shoot. We all had a blast!

I really don't know where to begin on praising Dawn for her incredible talent but after I met her during our trash the dress consultation, I knew right away I would not be disappointed. Dawn is an extremely friendly and kind gal who took my very basic idea for a project and turned it into beautiful art; where as most people just thought I crazy for wanting to do such a thing to my wedding dress. The whole experience working with Dawn, Mark, and McKenzie was fun from start to finish. I am extremely pleased with the final product and will recommend Dawn Kelly Photography as a happy client. Thank you so much again Dawn!!!
